High School Science Teachers participate in a summer professional development (PD) at NC State University, in a project funded by the NIHES. The PD program will focus on environmental health research experiences and will give teachers the opportunity to engage in lab research with a mentor scientist.
Zebra Fish Zebrafish is increasingly used a genetic model organism in biomedical studies. Genetically, zebrafish are very similar to humans—approximately 70 % of human protein-coding genes have orthologs in the zebrafish, and over 80 % of human disease-associated genes have a zebrafish counterpart.
Zebrafish is a powerful vertebrate model system for studying development, modeling disease, and performing drug screening. Recently a variety of genetic tools have been introduced, including multiple strategies for inducing mutations and generating transgenic lines.
